Hello! My name is Marissa Fratoni. I am from the snowbound, freezing cold state of Massachusetts, USA. (How many days till spring?) I wear many hats in my delightful little life. I am a massage therapist, student nurse, writer, doula-in-training, avid yoga practitioner, and mixed-media artist. My artwork helps me to make sense of my crazy life while my husband, family, and friends help me keep at least one foot firmly planted in reality. I prefer to leave the other foot dancing in the rain and mud! I doodle, sketch, sculpt with clay, sew, paint, and try to find as many uses for superglue as humanly possible. And then I typically use all of these mediums to create art dolls, ornaments, magnets, greeting cards, figurines, and stop-motion characters. (I plan to use my spring break this semester to create a short stop-motion film. We'll see how that plan works out!)
I am very new to blogging. I created my blog this year...sort of a New Year's resolution to connect with like-minded individuals, show my art to the world, and get back to writing which has always been a positive outlet for me. I felt that a blog was the best vehicle to fulfill all three resolutions.
I discovered this awesome blog event via Christine Alvarado's beautiful blog. http://www.dubuhdudesigns.typepad.com/ Then I discovered that another amazing artist, Lisa Swifka, created and participates in this incredible blog event.
http://awhimsicalbohemian.typepad.com/
I quickly found out that this is the fifth and final OWOH. I just knew that I had to be a part of this event. Bottom line, I fell in love with the idea of traveling around the world, meeting new people, and reading their stories...all from the comfort of my cozy recliner, sipping on a nice, warm cup of tea with Wylie the Tuxedo Kitty snuggled up next to me. Ahhh...Love my life! So welcome and thanks for visiting! I am looking forward to making new friends, sharing stories, and staring at beautiful artwork in complete awe!

My Door Prize Offer
Introducing Lil' Lady Blue, Elegantly Refined Magnet Doll. She's Lil' Violet Valentine's fridge buddy right now. (See my previous blog post.) She's about 3.5 inches long, 1.25 inches wide. Lil' Lady Blue is sculpted from paperclay over 18 gauge wire armature. She is painted with a variety of acrylics and paint pens. Her clothing is designed, pinned, and sewn directly to her body. Her brooch is made of glass beads that are hand-sewn directly to her dress. The same glass beads accent her heart-shaped purse and hat. Her hat is superglued to her head and a small, round magnet is superglued to her back. The winner of Lil' Lady Blue will receive her in gift wrap that belongs to a by-gone era and a copy of the original sketch that inspired me to sculpt, paint, and sew her into functional reality.
So how can you have a chance to win Lil' Lady Blue? To be eligible to win this prize, you must have an established blog, you must leave a comment below, and you must leave me a way to get in touch with you should you win. The winner will be chosen via random number generator and will be announced on February 17th, 2011. I will let you know by personal message/email that you have won Lil' Lady Blue...and I will also post the winner here on my blog. I will send Lil' Lady Blue as soon as I have an address for the winner.
In addition to Lil' Lady Blue, I will be offering sketches created with a variety of pencils, ink, and Sharpie markers. These sketches may be used as blog buttons, on greeting cards, flyers, decorative wall-hangings, etc. Please view my Journal Sketches here on my blog for ideas. Two winners will be selected for the sketches via random-number generator. I will draw anything you'd like though I specialize in colorful, playful angels, floating flowers, busy butterfly, and crazy heart designs.
Comments, comments, comments. As a mixed-media artist, I am always looking for new methods to add to the madness. Please feel free to share with me your favorite methods, techniques, perhaps even your mixed-media secrets? I also love to cook. So recipes are always welcome as well. Anything yummy that goes into a crockpot would be incredibly helpful right now! Thanks in advance and many, many blessings! And Lisa Swifka, thank you for this opportunity to be a part of the world in such a unique, accessible way!
How cute she is! Count me in please!
